Our doctors will review your diagnostic scans (CT scans, MRI, X-Rays, and Angiograms etc...) with you so that you are fully informed of your condition in order to make the best decision for your health.
If you have a copy of any scans (report and the images) that have been taken previously, please bring them in to your evaluation so that your doctor can review them, and formulate a plan with your goals in mind.
Did you know that diagnostic ultrasound is the gold standard for imaging shoulder, elbow, knee, and ankle pain?
This means that it is often the superior imaging modality to X-Rays, CT Scans and MRIs. This is because the provider can test the joint complex in real time and see how a certain position or resistance changes the soft tissue under pressure.
Musculoskeletal ultrasound is a safe and effective modality that allows your physical therapist to see the muscle, tendon, or joint where you feel pain. During your session your doctor of physical therapy may choose to utilize this imaging technique to aide in your diagnosis, or to ensure that your tissues are responding appropriately to therapy.
Diagnostic Ultrasound offers a number of important advantages compares to X-Ray, CT, and MRI in terms of safety and effectiveness. Diagnostic ultrasound in noninvasive and offers real-time imaging, allowing for examinations of structures at rest and in motion. This ability to capture the movement of the musculoskeletal components differentiates it from other imaging modalities and can permit a more accurate diagnosis.
Additionally, MSKUS uses high-frequency wounds waves that are transmitted from the probe through gel and into the body. The transducer collects the sound waves that bound back and the use those sound waves to produce an image. Ultrasound examinations does not use ionizing radiation (as used in X-Rays and CT Scans), thus there is no exposure to the patient or therapist. Because ultrasound images are captured in real-time, they can show the doctor how the body responds to mechanical stress, providing vital information to your examination and treatment protocol.
Best of all insurances do not require pre-authorization for this service. No waiting weeks to get an x-ray, just to jump through the insurance hoops, then finally get and MRI approved by an auditor in Iowa that doesn't know anything about you or your medical case.

MSKUS stands for musculoskeletal ultrasound. It allows us to see inside the body where you are experiencing pain. Unlike other imaging modalities (X-Ray, CT scans) diagnostic ultrasound does NOT contain harmful radiation.
Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) is a term used to denote that the provider is performing the diagnostic scan personally. This allows the provider to make real time assessment and adjustments to the patients plan of care right away. This has been shown to vastly improve patient care and reduce unnecessary tests or medical waste.
